Akilah Smith

Sloane Kistinger ‘17 is a force to be reckoned with. Ever since her freshman year she has been and all star on both the basketball an the soccer teams at Whitney Young. Her freshman year, Sloane brought the sophomore basketball team to a second place city championship. She was a vital part of the team’s success. That same year she served as the goalie for the girls varsity soccer team bringing them very far in the race for a city championship. Her race to success has not slowed down.

Sloane not only acts as an important part of the school’s sports programs, she is also a star student. Averaging A’s her entire four years at Whitney Young, Sloane works hard on the court, the field, and in the classroom. Her involvement in the school has increased each year. Her sophomore year she became one of the founding members of the club Dance Marathon, that aims to raise money for children with diseases and illnesses alike. Her senior year, Sloane took the initiative of organizing the senior class trip to Six Flags Great America to serve as a close to all of her Whitney Young High School accomplishments.

As we look forward to her next steps, Sloane has made a big decision. Originally committing to Washington University she only chose the school because she liked it better than her other option University of Colorado- Boulder. She say’s “I liked it better because it was on the ocean and had access to a great city (Seattle) and better sports teams to cheer on.” However, her heart remained with her number one choice Michigan University. Her dreams came true when she was finally given admission to the school. It was time to make a choice. Sloane followed her heart. She chose Michigan University because she loved the campus atmosphere and it was still close enough to home, but not too close. Before Sloane moves on to become a Wolverine we look back at her accomplishments as a Dolphin. We wish her the best of luck as she continues her academic career at Michigan.
