A large board  in Hollywood, called the Academy, decides the success of every entertainer in America once a year. Actors and directors devote their entire careers to receiving an Oscar, but more often than not they wait their entire lives for even a nomination. Every year there are a few nominated who are undeserving, and a few left off the ballot who deserve a spot. The following is a list of smallest to biggest mishaps of this year’s Academy Awards.
5. SNUB: Quentin Tarantino for Best Director, the Hateful Eight
This three hour long movie was a cinematic masterpiece, a commentary about racism, sexism, and gang violence. The “Roadshow” features an overture and intermission. It was not only thoroughly entertaining, but artistic. The entire movie was a homage to wild wild west movies in the fifties and sixties. Tarantino’s direction was flawless, and it’s a shame he wasn’t nominated. The entire cast acted together as one unit, every bit with better timing than the last. This snub was a shock to many.

4. SNUB: Michael Keaton for Best Supporting Actor, Spotlight
In the movie “Spotlight,” Michael Keaton played one of the journalists uncovering the truth about the many priests who have molested young children. His two co-stars, Rachel McAdams and Mark Ruffalo were both nominated for best actors in a supporting role, but unfortunately Keaton was left out. His performance was perfectly clean cut, and he really should have been recognized. When asked about the snub, journalist Nate Scott is quoted saying, “Michael Keaton is an American Treasure.”

3. MISTAKE: Rooney Mara for Best Supporting Actress, Carol
Rooney Mara was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in “Carol.” She played Carol’s (Cate Blanchett) love interest. Her prissy, boring performance was only made better by the fact that she is a good looking actress. If she didn’t have the physical appearance she does, she would never have been nominated. Even if she was less boring in this part, the constant pout she wore on her face was so annoying it was significantly difficult to watch for the full 2.5 hours.

2. SNUB: Samuel Jackson for Best Supporting Actor, the Hateful Eight
Jackson played a ruthless bounty hunter in Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight.” As always, he had perfect comic timing. Samuel Jackson is one of the few actors who is able to play a terrifyingly evil character, and still make him hilarious to his audience. He deserved this nomination, even if it was just for the fact that he spent most of the movie with blood and guts all over his face. Jackson’s wife is quoted saying, “I’m disturbed by it all.”

1. SNUB: Jacob Tremblay for Best Actor, Room
Jacob Tremblay, age 9, was the number one oscar snub for this year. He played Joy’s (Brie Larson) five year-old son in the motion picture “Room”. Tremblay carried the energy for the entire movie. He was the reason people came out of the theatre crying their eyes out, and it had nothing to do with how cute he was. When the nominations came out, it was a surprise to all that he wasn’t on the list. Brie Larson (nominated for best actress) said in her Golden Globe acceptance speech, “Tremblay is half the movie.” He is a young boy who is talented beyond his years.

These entertainers, among many others, will not receive Academy Awards, but their performances have inspired audiences everywhere.
