Election Day 2018

Election Day 2018

Election Day is quickly approaching, and many say that it is the most important election ever. Americans are being encouraged to vote through various platforms, especially the younger generations. Jahi Owens says, “We need to vote. Our vote matters.” But, what and who are we voting for?

November 6th, 2018 marks the general election. The open positions for this election are the U.S. House of Representatives, State Representatives, Senators, Attorney General, three members of the Supreme Court, District Judges, District Attorneys, District Justices, Lieutenant Governor, Governor, and more. This may seem like a lot, and it is, but every position plays an important role in orchestrating the next few years of Chicago. Arihana Figueroa ‘19 says, “I voted because I wanted my voice to be heard, especially at times like these, and I have a vision for the future of the city of Chicago.”

The two main potential candidates for governor are Bruce Rauner (Republican) and J.B. Pritzker (Democrat). If you’re still unsure who to vote for or who’s running, click here for more information. If you don’t know where to vote click here. There’s still time for you to vote in person, you can also register to vote on November 6th. You don’t need to bring any documentation if you are registered. There is expected to be a spike in millennial voter turnout, and there has been already in Springfield. Elizabeth Antunez ‘19 says, “I would vote if I could. I’m encouraging my sister to vote.”
