Get Connected with Jewish Student Connection

Come Join this club!! Yes, the name may be misleading, but Jewish Student Connection, or JSC, is free for anyone to join, not just Jewish students. Their mission statement is “Jewish Student Connection exists to help high school students explore what [Jewish] means to them, inspiring proud personal connections with our culture, with our People, with Israel — with each other.”
The club appeals to everyone because one gets to eat food and play games while engaging themselves in the culture. It is a great opportunity for kids who wish to learn about the Jewish culture, even though they may not be practicing the Israeli faith. Jacob Kayser ‘17, an engaged member, says “Students from multiple ethnicities and racial backgrounds are able to become immersed in Jewish culture with great friends and delicious food” and Ian Omuro ‘17, a new member, kept it simple by saying “JSC is a wonderful club that allows you to learn about the culture without having to be Jewish”. Jewish Student Connection is not just a club here at Whitney Young, in JSC you can be a part of something bigger. The clubs president Quincy Hirt ‘17 told us that “JSC presently supports more than 80 clubs nationwide, with new clubs and communities joining the network each year.”
Whether you are looking for activities to put on your college resume, or just looking for some food, games and fun, Jewish Student Connection presents a wonderful opportunity for any student to learn about the Judaistic culture and the country of Israel. Once again, you do not have to be a Judaist to participate in this club! The sponsor of this club is Mr. Quinn and each meeting is run by the president of the club and a volunteer representative. JSC meets two Wednesdays every month in Mr. Quinn’s room 297.
