After being an Uber driver himself, Michael Pellets was inspired to start a ridesharing service for women only. Chariot for Women, which will consist solely of drivers and clients who identify as women as well as any children under the age of 13, aims to provide a safer option for women across the nation. It also includes various safety features that are missing from other apps, such as the Criminal Offender Record Information check.

The company plans to launch soon in Boston, expanding over time. While it could be beneficial to many women, there are likely to be legal obstacles, seeing as companies aren’t supposed to discriminate or turn away customers based on sex. Pellets hopes to take it to the U.S. Supreme Court so that services exclusively for women will be allowed in matters of safety.

There has been much talk of safety issues among ridesharing services these days. Buzzfeed recently shedding light on thousands of complaints that have been made to Uber regarding sexual assault. In the midst of all these problems, Chariot for Women could be the perfect solution.
