Chicago Public Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett paid WY a visit Sept 3. According to Principal Joyce Kenner, the purpose of her visit was to congratulate WY on being recognized as one of the top 25 high schools in the Midwest.

“She took the time to visit our school and was very proud of our honor,” said Kenner.

Byrd-Bennett visited several classes while she was at WY, according to Kenner, and got the chance to talk to several students about her role as CEO of CPS.

“Dr. Bennett was really nice, she seemed really down to Earth,” said Adinah Gray ’15. “I asked her how it was to come in as the superintendent of Chicago Public Schools in the state it was in, and she explained in a very nice and relatable way.

Dr Kenner said that she thought that the students who were able to talk to Byrd-Bennett asked thoughtful questions.

“Our students were extremely articulate with their questions that they asked, questions about her life and how she got to where she is and what were some of the challenges she faced on a daily basis as CEO,” said Kenner.
