Student profile: Carmela Haydon

Forrest Haydon, Brother

Carmela Haydon has been a busy student here at Whitney M. Young for the past four years. She is a seasoned four season soccer player and three year cross country runner. She is president of Prochain Niveau, one of the schools french clubs, and a member of Acting for Gender Equality. She enjoys biking, reading and traveling when she is off from school. I sat down to ask her a few questions.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a Dolphin?

A: “Dolphins fight sharks and can kill them.”

Q: What is your  least favorite thing about being a Dolphin?

A: “Having a brother who is also dolphin.”

Q: What are your future plans?

A: “This fall I will be attending McGill University in Montréal Canada. I will be studying international development because I want to make a difference and it covers a lot of different things. An interdisciplinary major allows me to study a bunch of things at once so I’m not limited.”

Q:Are there any undeveloped interests of yours?

A: “Boating, like sailing, and dancing”

Q: Any quote that you live by or would like to share?

A: “A day without a smile is a lost one”

Q: If you didn’t go to high school at Whitney M. Young, where would you have gone and how would you be different?

A: “Kenwood Academy, I probably would not be as involved in sports, and probably activism. Whitney M. Young broadened my horizons.”

Carmela is looking forward to school being out as she has a busy summer planned. She’ll be traveling with family as well as completing part of the Camino de Santiago with a friend before relaxing a little and packing up for college.
