AP Capstone provides new learning opportunities

AP Capstone program is a new course opportunity that will be available to students in the 2015-2016 school year.

In addition to partnerships with UIC and Loyola to provide dual enrollment and dual credit options for students, AP Capstone will be available to current sophomores and juniors. The program is two-year course sequence and students who sign up must commit to the two-year program.

According to the programming guide, it is “designed to complement and enhance the in-depth, discipline specify study provided through AP courses.”

“I want to take [AP Capstone] because I want to major in science and I feel that the class would help with researching and writing tools,” said Bella Michel ’18.

The program is designed to help student gain skills that will help them succeed in college.

The program recommends that students have taken or plan to enroll in AP Language and Composition.

“For what the program focuses on, I think it would really help for doing papers and learning how to research properly,” Michel said.

Students who are interested must submit an application and attend a required parent meeting. Qualifying students may be eligible to receive a gym waiver. The AP Capstone is a distinctive diploma and will appear on high school transcripts.
