NHS Holiday Movie for a Great Cause

Whitney Young’s National Honor Society hosted a holiday movie in the theater on December 17th after-school. There were cookies muffins, popcorn and hot chocolate sold. All the proceeds were donated to help the survivors of the California wildfire.

Explaining the purpose of this event Fiona Chen ‘19, the Activities Co-chair of NHS, stated, “We really wanted to organize a fundraiser after hearing about the tragedies of the California wildfire. And in the spirit of the holidays we wanted to make this fundraiser into a bonding event for more than just NHS members. We extended the invitation to other big organizations in our school, so our whole school can contribute to a great cause.”

Claire Liu ‘19 commented that she thinks “it’s so cool that NHS made a way for the community to get together!”

There was tight race between what movie they were showing, but Home Alone ultimately won.

Home Alone is a must-watch  holiday movie is about a 8 year old Kevin McCallister who accidentally gets left behind as his family goes on a trip to Paris. When Kevin wakes up to an empty house he is excited. Until he realizes that two con men want to rob his house and that he must protect his house. Home Alone is a movie full of laughs but also a touching story about family.

“This seemed like an exciting event and for a great cause” contemplated Nathan Mutuc ‘19.

Although the turn out was not as great as expected, we all appreciate the National Honor Society for their effort in trying to host an event that everyone could go to. It is rare that a club hosts and is willing to host such a big event.
