Winter Festivities

Winter+Festivities

Ayla Makris

Winter break is almost here. You may be staying home in Chicago. You may be escaping the cold and heading down to Florida, like some WY Dolphins. Brandon Puchowicz ‘19 says, “I’m going on vacation because it’s too cold here.” To that I say, “It’s a shame you will be missing out on authentic winter activities if you are headed closer to the equator, so have fun with your fake winter.” As for the rest of us staying here, we need to keep ourselves busy. Ana Gore ‘20 says, “We don’t want to waste our break doing nothing.” She’s right, and for that reason I have put together a list of fun winter festivities that anyone can participate in.

If it snows:

  • Go sledding (you are never too old to race down a large snowy hill)
  • Go skiing (at your own risk)
  • Build a snowman (to add more decoration to the front of your house)
  • Have a snowball fight (and throw it right in their face)
  • Build a snow fort (so you can finally move out of your parents house)

If it doesn’t snow (yikes):

  • Go to Lincoln Park Zoo or Brookfield Zoo and see the Christmas lights (because looking at lights is fun, right?)
  • Go ice skating (but don’t crack open your head)
  • Decorate a gingerbread house (and then eat it and regret it)
  • Have a Christmas movie marathon (while you are Home Alone)

I hope this list was helpful in giving you guys ideas for what to do over winter break. Let’s hope it snows some more so we can have a white Christmas. Isabel Makris ‘22 says “I’m just gonna stay inside and wait for the cold to pass.” For those of us who like the winter, have a fun break!
