Whitney M. Young Magnet High School is not trash. No literally, this school is not a trash so make sure you are picking up all of your garbage. Recently I took notice of the various items needing disposal around the school, mostly in the different houses. What’s the most bothersome is the proximity they were to the nearest trash can. Iyanna Herring ‘20 says, “Unless you’re in a super rush, which should be very seldom since you have five minutes, there is no excuse really”. Even if you know you are about to be late to class, nine times out of ten, there is a garbage in your next class. Students like Jeremiah Shade ‘21 describes leaving your trash out as, “trifling and a sign of laziness”.  While some students see it as an issue, students like Camryn Young ‘20 say, “It’s not that bad”. We all see it as some type of a problem, so what can we do about it? Again, Iyanna Herring ‘20 says, “I’m unsure because yelling leads to revolt and backlash but being soft and polite about it gets you stepped all over.” Sad, but true. Will the trash ever get picked up? Will one student take a stand and make a change? The world may never know.
