Here in Chicago, we love the Bulls, but even more than the Chicago Bulls, we like to keep track of our team’s former basketball star, Derrick Rose. He’s a legend here, as a matter of fact, you can see jerseys with his name all over the Windy City.

Just recently, Rose managed to get a career high of 50 points on October 31st against the Utah Jazz, an amazing total for any basketball player. Although he may be a player for the Minnesota Timberwolves now, everyone is back on that Derrick Rose hype! Here’s the thing: is this a fluke? Will Rose prevail and continue to play as well as he did versus the Jazz?

Terik Priest, ‘18, had this to say in regards to my questions, “Derrick Rose has been through so much, and always pushes forward for his team. I know that he had a rough game versus the Warriors with his sore ankle, but he will come back better than ever. He’s a team player, loves the game, and works hard, that’s why he’s the G.O.A.T. [greatest of all time]!”

Brandon Puchowitz, ‘19, had a similar opinion to Terik, but didn’t have as much praise. “Yes, he had a good game, and yes, he seems to be doing okay now, but he always gets injured. It’s an endless amount of injuries with D. Rose; that’s why he doesn’t get the same recognition as other players. If he could stay injury free, he’d be golden. Still, he’s not, and I don’t want to get my hopes up.” Ivan Olguin, ‘18, told me that he doesn’t watch must basketball, but he recognizes D Rose as a respectable athlete. “He’s a Hooper, he’s gonna keep hooping. That’s all I have to say.”

As long as he continues to play the sport, we’ll continue to follow him here at The Beacon. Here in Chicago, we recognize our fellow

and their accomplishments. Hopefully, D. Rose will have a good season this year.
