Have you ever thought to yourself, “where were my ancestors from?” Now is the perfect time to get educated about your questions!

Harold Washington Library in Chicago, IL is hosting a free-to-attend “Genealogy and Family History Day” this upcoming Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Throughout the day, the library will feature guest speakers from the Afro-American Genealogical and Historical Society of Chicago, the Chicago Genealogical Society and the Computer-Assisted Genealogy Group of Northern Illinois. If simply hearing about ancestry is not enough to satisfy you, the library will also hold one-on-one consultations with professional genealogists! Aside from the titled “Ask a Genealogist” activity, the expo will host presentations such as “Adoption Searches: Past and Present” and “I Did My DNA Test. Now What?”

The scheduling of this very special expo might have been influenced by very recent news as U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren released the results of a DNA test proving her Native American Ancestry. The Chicago Tribune writes about the situation, “The reveal was an effort to rebuff President Donald Trump’s claims that Warren was not truly Native American, as she has long claimed.”

As the Chicago Public Library writes, “Whether you’re new to family history research of an experienced genealogist, Genealogy & Family History Day is for you.”
