Last Friday, October 12th, rapper Quavious Marshall, better known by his stage name, Quavo, released his highly anticipated solo album, QUAVO HUNCHO. Quavo, is one of the three members of the popular rap group, Migos.

The album was heavily promoted through social media and it gained a lot of recognition from other major celebrities. The album is complete with nineteen tracks majority of those being accompanied by big featuring artists. Ranging from artists such as 21 Savage, Drake, and Lil Baby to other artists like Normani, Madonna and Saweetie, Quavo provides us with a great variety in sound and lyrics.

The album has received many mixed reviews coming from fans, celebrities, critics and other industry members. Many believe that the album was a total flop and his music was subpar. Alicia Bridges ‘19 says, “Quavo needs Migos and will soon be reduced to a memory for his lack of bars and individuality.” Others have taken to social media platforms to express their love and praise for the album. Nia Lambert ‘21 says, “I really appreciate the catchy songs on the album.”

One of the most controversial songs on the album is, “Huncho Dreams”. The song is about fellow rapper, Nicki Minaj and serves as somewhat of a diss track. Nicki Minaj released her album “Queen” over the summer and called out Quavo in her song “Barbie Dreams”. Quavo retaliated with “Huncho Dreams” where he discusses an alleged relationship/fling he had with Minaj. Nariya Douglas ‘19 said, “Quavo did not have to attack Nicki in such a derogatory way.” This song seems to be the only one that stands out ot the masses from the album. Overall, QUAVO HUNCHO has been receiving many negative reviews and people do not seem to connect with the project.
