Cristiano Ronaldo Rape Allegations

Kyla Jones

Recently, claims have  been made that the soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo raped a woman back in 2009 in a Las Vegas hotel room. The woman making these accusations goes by the name of Kathryn Mayorga. Not only does she claim Ronaldo has committed this horrible crime, but she also claims that he coerced her into signing a nondisclosure agreement  in 2010. The soccer prodigy denies any and all of the allegations that Kathryn Mayorga has made; calling them an “abominable crime.” He even said the claim is being made “by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.”

Two Whitney Young students have very contrasting opinions on this subject matter. Cameron Williams ‘20 said, “I feel like women are always made to look like the bad guys when we speak up about the horrible acts men commit on us.” However, Timia Ware ‘21 says “I wonder why they come out with these allegations so many years after the fact,” questioning the credibility of the suspect. Whitney Young students: this article should be a reminder to speak up. If someone has done something you feel uncomfortable about you should never hesitate to notify an adult, law enforcement, or even a friend. Do not be or feel silenced. Your voice matters.
