This past Tuesday, October 2nd, the Whitney Young girls swimming and diving team had their final home meet of the season. The pool deck was draped with blue and orange streamers in celebration of the 2018 Senior Night. The team faced off against JonesPayton’s girls swimming and diving team and pulled off a win, leaving the Varsity team undefeated in the CPS conference.

Class of 2019 senior swimmers Lena Bruursema, Cassi Chung, Annika Chrobak-Prince, Jalen Lewis, Lauren Norman, and Kaela Wilkinson all experienced a bitter-sweet last home meet. “This pool has been my second home since freshman year,” says Lauren. “It’s unreal to think that we’ll be leaving it behind soon.” With the season ending in a mere month, Lauren and the other seniors will only be swimming in three more meets before the City Championships.

Although there was a sad sentiment amongst the ladies, it was an undeniably touching event. The bleachers were nearly full of family, students, and faculty there to cheer the girls on. Captain, Annika Chrobak-Prince, claimed that her senior night was “an amazing experience. The amount of love and support from the team and the community made it unforgettable.”

If you weren’t able to watch our swimmers this past Tuesday, be sure to make it to an upcoming meet. According to assistant coach, Chelsea Abbott, there is still some amazing swimming to come. “These ladies are working super hard everyday, sometimes twice a day, and we’re starting to see it pay off. By next month we’ll be ready to win city.” Don’t miss our Dolphins at the City Championship on November 4th!
