Recently, to the surprise of many, the Chicago Bears have been winning football games. After coming last in the NFC North division with an record abysmal record of 5-11, it seems as if the Bears have pulled it together this year. Right now they’re 3-1 and ranked number one in the NFC North division. All of this success may be due to acquiring, potential Defensive Player of the Year, Khalil Mack in a trade with the Oakland Raiders. He has helped the Bears improve to being ranked fifth in defense in the NFL after being ranked tenth last season. According to many people (mostly Chicagoans) the Bears look like they have a legit chance of making the Super Bowl. Although, with all this success comes a lot of doubt. I asked students from our school if the Bears success is a fluke or are they really turning things around.

“I think the Bears are actually going to be good because Khalil Mack is a dog and he’s a big part in their success. When you’ve been weak for so long the only way is up so I have confidence in them.” – Mujahid Rahim ‘20

“I think they’re going to be alright. I don’t think they’re going to make the playoffs but I’ll think they’ll end the season with a winning record.” – Brian Lafountain ‘19

“Yeah, I think they’re going to be really good. This is the best they’ve been in years. I think they can at least make the playoffs; hopefully the Super Bowl.” – Quinyon Norman ‘19

“I think the trade for Khalil Mack the only reason they’re doing well, but once they run into a team that can stop one man they won’t be as good. I actually went to a game and Mitch Trubisky played like some cheeks to the point where they almost didn’t win. The offense is really bad and the defense is only being held up by one man so it’s safe to say that they’re a fluke.” – Casey Coates ‘20

“I think they’re a fluke because they’re ugly.” – Aidan Chapman ‘20

This week the Bears have a bye week so we’ll have to wait and see how they play on October 14th against the Miami Dolphins.
