Guess Who’s Back?

The Whitney Young football team has come back strong after the mid-season cancellation last year due to low enrollment.  The currently undefeated team came back with new players, new coaches, and a new attitude.  The head coach, Christopher Mallette, heavily promotes brotherhood within the program along with the help of coaches who have previously played on the team and want to see the team be brought back to life.

Quarterback Miles Wagner ‘19 says, “This team gives people the opportunity to build skills on and off the field. It helps teach loyalty, accountability, and how to work together.”

The players refer to each other as family, and have each other’s backs. The team occasionally sings a song called “Hold Us Together,” which speaks on brotherly love and holding each other together when times get rough.

The team provides a place of growth in every player’s lives. Tailback Casey Coates ’20 says, “Coach Mallette brought me back into football. I don’t regret joining this team for a second.” Lineman Daniel Belk ‘20 says, ”Football is why I don’t need anger management.”

Don’t miss the homecoming game against DuSable that takes place at Rockne Stadium on Friday, September 28th at 4:15pm.  A bus and game ticket is available at the school store for $10 starting on Monday, September 24th. Hope to catch you there!
