On Sunday, September 23, 2018, the Whitney Young Boys Soccer Team will play in the Consolation Championship game of the Windy City Classic at Toyota Park against Lincoln Way East High School at 10 AM. After losing their initial game of the tournament to Argo Community High School 3-1 in 2OT on August 21, the Dolphins quickly rebounded with a 9-0 win over IC Catholic Prep on August 23, and two sets of 2-1 wins over Victor J Andrew High School and Joliet West High School on August 25 to reach the championship game.

The team, who currently holds a 10-3 (4-1 conference) record, is very excited heading into Sunday. “I’m really excited to play on a perfect pitch, just like professional players”, states junior midfielder Rodney Bejabeng, who was named Player of the Game in the clash against Joliet West on August 25. “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our talent and come out with a victory. I also think that it is a testament to our hard work and what we can accomplish”, Bejabeng also added.

Head Coach Ian McCarthy, who is not a stranger to coaching on the Toyota Park pitch, knows how much this experience means for his players. “Anytime you have the opportunity to play in a professional setting is special. A lot of kids, including my players, grew up going to Chicago Fire games”, said Coach McCarthy, who will be coaching at Toyota Park for the 3rd time on Sunday.  With the Dolphins in the middle of the CPS City Tournament, McCarthy wants to make sure the team doesn’t burn its much-needed energy on such a large field. “The city title is our goal. Giving everyone some playing time is my plan and my number one priority on Sunday”, McCarthy also stated.

If the Dolphins advance to the CPS City Championship, the title game will also be at Toyota Park on October 4 at 7 PM. Make sure to come out September 23 to cheer them on and also wish them luck on their road to City and State!
