We all know that the 90s were the best decade to live in. It had the craziest fashion, and the best R&B music without a doubt. In addition to this, there is no forgetting the sitcoms created in this era. Here are the top five shows, and if you encounter any that you have not seen yet, be sure to check it out!

 

  1.  Sister, Sister

Watch as twin girls, Tia and Tamera, are reunited after being separated at birth. They were adopted by two adults, a man and a woman, who decide it would be best for them to live in the same household. They have adventures as high schoolers that are unique to twins such as matching outfits and switching places. Six seasons of mischief that will leave you laughing hysterically. When you finish watching, it may be hard to shake the phrase “go home Roger!”

 

  1.  Martin

A young, comical radio personality has a variety of hilarious life situations with his live-in girlfriend, Gina, and her best friend, Pam, who Martin has a love-hate relationship with, as well as his best friends, Tommy, who no one ever knows what type of work he does, and Cole, whose elevator doesn’t quite go all the way up to the top floor. Through it all, they all maintain a close bond of friendship. Martin shows his versatility as an actor by playing other roles throughout episodes, like Jerome, Sha Nae Nae, and Otis.

  1.  Fresh Prince of Bel Air

An African-American male, Will Smith, has to move in with his uncle’s family in Bel Air because of fights and troubles that he gets into in his hometown. The family is very well off and there is a clear contrast between their living situation, and the one that he left behind in Philadelphia. In the household, there are three children, a butler, and their parents. As the seasons progress, the audience gets to see how Will grows and transitions from high school to college.

  1.  Family Matters

A spin-off of Perfect Strangers, Family Matters was created in order to focus on the Winslow Family. Consisting of a husband, wife, and three children, this show highlights the everyday life of the middle-class suburban Chicago Black family. The Winslow Family is pretty normal, but Steve Urkel brings the show to life with his clumsy, yet intelligent manner. This show is entertaining, and has managed to stay on television years after the series finale. “Don’t tweak,” Said Jake Kosakowski ‘18, watch all 9 seasons of Steve’s memorable “Did I do that?”

Discover how life at a Historically Black College leads to romance and drama in this addicting sitcom created as a spin-off of The Cosby Show. The first season revolves around how Denise transitions from living with her family to attending college, but eventually shifts its focus to the other people who attend the college. “This is where the iconic Whitley and Dwayne came to life,” said former Whitney Young student Shayanna Love ‘17. There is no doubt that you will tear up multiple times throughout the season, but the last episode of the series will definitely have you wishing it never ended.

 

For many, these shows were a key aspect of childhood, and these are all great shows to check out in your spare time. Be careful though, you may become addicted………
