Playboi Carti: Die Lit

LaCurtis Bunch, Editor

Coming off a strong 2017 with the release of his self-titled debut album, Playboi carti, Playboi Carti has released his sophomore more album entitled Die Lit. The release came as a surprise to many fans because he only gave a couple days of notice on the release of the album. Fabian Haro ‘18 says, “I had no idea that the album was coming but I was so excited when he gave the release date. It’s lit [sic]!” Prior to 2017, Playboi Carti was famed for his success without having released a mixtape or an album, so I’m sure fans were not expecting two projects in such close proximity. The album, Die Lit, contains 19 tracks of Playboi Carti doing his signature “swag” or “mumble” rap over a multitude of beats. David Tapia ‘18 says, “ the album just oozes swag and is able to encompass the entire aura of Playboi Carti.” Similar to his first album, Playboi Carti, this album includes a massive contribution from producer Pi’erre Bourne. The album was met with overwhelmingly positive opinions from critics. Anthony Fantano, a YouTube music review, believes the album to be a 7/10 and Pitchfork gave the album an incredible 8.5/10. I think it’s suffice to say that Carti has satisfied his fans.
