Whitney Young Takes the Crown

The Whitney Young Dolphins men’s lacrosse team took down the Lane Tech Indians on May 11th to take the city crown for the sixth year in a row.  The game started with a quick goal from Payton junior Zach Anderson, however, Lane answered right back to make the score 1-1. Then Whitney scored another two goals to make it 3-1 by the end of the first quarter.  Lane scored once in the second to make the score 3-2 but the Dolphins scored within the last two minutes to end the half with a score of 4-2. The Dolphins were hyped and running high going into the locker room at halftime to the cheers of the student body in the stands.  Senior Reed Schafer ‘18 said, “ Lane may think that they’re still in the game but we’re a second half team and we’ll come out firing.” The Dolphins did just that and came out with a 5-2 lead shortly into the 3rd quarter and would never have a lead of less than two goals for the remainder of the game.  Captain Jake Reichl (Payton ‘18) said “ we knew what we had to do and we knew what we wanted to do. It was all about the execution.” The Young Dolphins won by a final score of 9-4 with the big nail in the coffin coming at the end of the third quarter with sophomore Ben Wilen (Payton ‘20) scoring with one second left in the quarter to deflate the Indians and their fans.  The Dolphins mobbed their goalie with the final buzzer, and the 6-peat was sealed.
