Sneaks this Week P3

Christian Lovett

This week in sneaks is all about the Jumpman. More specifically the Homage to Home Jordan 1 which released this past weekend April 21, 2018. If you’re into sneakers or even making a little extra money you’re in the right place. Sneakers are and have always been a hobby of mine. Bi-weekly I write a column about sneakers so if you like the following article don’t forget to check back for another article soon.

For those who do not know what the Jordan 1 it is the very first silhouette that started Michael Jordan’s sneaker legacy with the swoosh(Nike). The Jordan 1 carries a lot of history alone as a silhouette. It is one that is simple and was initially made to be a basketball sneaker in the 80’s but today you can see it worn with regular outfits by the likes of budding rapper Asap Rocky and comedian Kevin Hart.

Getting into the nitty gritty and what most of you have came for, the “Homage to Home” 1s and everything you need to know about them. The “Homage to Home” name comes from Jordan’s time spent as a Chicago Bull and this shoe features two classic colorways that Jordan wore as a Bull. The shoe is meant to pay Homage to Chicago for everything it has meant to Jordan and his career. The two classic colorways that are featured on this sneaker are the “Bred” which can be found on the outer of the shoe and “Chicago” on the inner. The Homage to Home was a very limited sneaker and only featured 2300 pairs. Each pair has the number of the pair stitched into the right shoe. More details included the print of “From”(left) and “For”(right) in small font on the back of the left and right shoe.

When asked about what is your favorite Jordan 1 sneaker enthusiast ‘18 Emeka Anosike said “My favorite Jordan 1 is the bred 1 by far. I love the color blocking and the brightness of the red on a black canvas.” My personal favorite is the Chicago 1 because it exemplifies everything Chicago and it is based off of the Bulls “Home” jersey. When asked about if they are trying to get the sneaker sneaker reseller ‘18 Ryan Ru responded “I probably won’t try to get this shoe even though it has promising resale value at the moment. I just don’t really like the makeup of the shoe and how it’s half and half.” In terms of the silhouette I personally am indifferent on the sneaker. My favorite sneaker model ever is the Jordan 1 so I wish I could’ve gotten the shoes to put in my collection.

The shoe could be found at retail locations like DTS, Saint Alfred, Notre, Footlocker, and DTLR. The shoe retail price is the general $160+tax that all Jordan 1’s are priced at. The current resale value for the shoe is $700-$1,000. There is a wider release that is scheduled for other retail locations around the US but there will not be any pairs like the ones found from Chicago locations.
