Unfortunately, Erin Popovich, wife of Gregg Popovich, passed away on Wednesday, April 18,2018. When it was announced, it took a toll on everyone’s heart. Many who knew her talked very highly of Erin despite the fact that she barely talked to anyone. Instead of mourning her passing, her community  celebrated the positive things, too. Erin and Gregg were married for forty years; that’s more years than I’ve been on this Earth. Someone once said, “Hold on to and cherish even the smallest of moments… you may not know it yet, but years from now when you look back… they could become one of your biggest memories!”

Gregg Popovich never shared the fact that his wife had a long illness, because it personally wasn’t none of  anyone else’s business. When Spurs general manager RC Buford, reflected on Erin Popovich, he said “She was a strong, wonderful, kind, intelligent woman who provided love, support and humor to all of us”. Coach Popovich wasn’t in attendance at the last couple of Spurs games as they took on the Golden State Warriors in the finals. It is tough for his team to continue on without his presence, but they are still playing hard. Tony Parker said “Mrs. Popovich was a mom to him and the other Spurs”. She will truly be missed, not just by the San Antonio Spurs family, but everyone. Erin’s passing reminds us all that in sports its more than just a game.
