Kanye Madness

My bracket

March 15th marked the beginning of the annual college basketball frenzy, March Madness. Brackets have been made and bets have been placed. But prior to the first round of games, a fan-made bracket called “Kanye Madness” (where people would pick the best Kanye West song) circulated Twitter and people went Crazy.

I participated in both brackets, and I can say without a doubt that the Kanye bracket was way more fun to create. That being said, it should be known I would definitely pick Kanye West over the NCAA any day. While the seeding for the Kanye bracket was often questionable due to the preferences of the creator of the bracket (Carrington Harrison, a sports radio host), I gladly spent hours listening to all sixty-four tracks on the bracket. And when I finally had my finalized bracket, hours were spent at school in heated discussion with my friends over our picks, winner, and biggest upsets. Chris Nguyen (’18) was disgusted at my runner-up “The New Workout Plan” and said “that song is actually a meme.” Charlie O’Neill (’19) knew from the start that “All Falls Down is definitely gonna be [his] winner.”

Songs from “The College Dropout” album definitely made the most appearances on my bracket, but in the end, the nine minute, gorgeous, piece of art that is “Runaway” from “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” was crowned champion for me. Although I got a lot of hate, I stand strongly by my decision. With rumors of Kanye dropping a new album later this year, I am definitely looking forward to doing an updated bracket during next year’s March Madness.
