We’re going downstate, downstate

Eric Catania

You read the title right, the boy’s basketball team is going downstate for the second year in a row! After defeating one of the best high school teams in America (Simeon), your defending state champs will play Evanston on March 16th for a chance to play in the state finals again. If they manage to defeat Evanston, who they beat last year in the super-sectionals, they will play against either Bellville West or Larkin to try and accomplish the 2peat. Back to back championships in the 4a division has not happened in a while, and the last to do it was the Simeon team they just beat.

Going downstate is an exciting thing for any team at any school, but driving to Peoria is really a special event. An attendee from last year, Evan Wimberly ‘18 said, “watching the boys play in such a big event was one of the highlights from last school year. I know they are gonna bring home another W this year.” Even people who have never attended something like this are still excited, as Nic Bridgeford ‘18 said, “I was not able to make it last year, but the idea of a chance at a state title has me anxious beyond belief.”

If you wanna catch the action this year, the Dolphins play at the Peoria Civic Center on Friday, March 16th at 7pm. They then play again at the Civic Center on Saturday, the 17th, for either 3rd place or the championship. Make sure you come down and support and watch Whitney Young show that we are the School of Champions!
