The Academy Awards are set to take place this Sunday, March 4th. The show is expected to be huge because  the Oscars are turning 90. With big name performers such as Mary J. Blige, Common, and Miguel; and in the words of Leo Pei ‘18 “these artists know how to put on a show, I can’t wait to tune in.” With Jimmy Kimmel hosting, it is likely the tone of the show will be kept light and full of laughter. Despite this, many are anxious to see where politics will come into play during the show. After all the support with the #metoo movement during the Golden Globes, a movement supporting the victims of sexual assault and harassment; we await to see if the same support will be shown here or if it will even be addressed.

With a long list of amazing nominees, the biggest award of the night, for best picture is up for grabs. Some of those nominated include “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which is favored to win, as well “The Shape of Water”. However, many are predicting a win for Jordan Peele’s “Get Out”, which has been seen as the underdog. Dixon O’Banion ‘18  has hopes saying “Get Out was an extraordinary movie that did numbers, it should pull through and get the win.”  This has been an exciting year for film, where all of the nominations are truly exceptional and award worthy. It’s a race to the finish and as track star Amira Young ‘18 stated, “I can’t wait to see who’s gonna win.”
