This week in sneaks features popular brands like Converse, Nike, Jordan, Louis Vuitton, and Adidas. The sneaker culture is one that is constantly changing and evolving. Currently the hot trend is the Dad shoe wave similar to the Dad cap wave that we saw arise in summer 2016. Individuals like Kanye West, Jaden Smith, and others have been seen sporting “Dad” sneakers. Dad shoes are like the shape of the New Balance 990 that you can find at Walmart.

Adidas has caught on to the Dad wave with sneaker silhouettes like the Yeezy waverunner 700. Recently Adidas released the official images for then Dragon Ball Z collaboration that they have in store for latter 2018 starting in August. The Frieza Freeza Yung 1 is a shoe that adopts the Dad wave. It will potentially be one of the more hyped sneakers from the connection simply due to its shape. I asked William Jamison ‘18 what he thought about the sneaker and he said “I think that it’s cool but it’s definitely not something that I can see myself rocking. I’m fine not hopping on the Dad shoe wave.” I personally feel the same way and I think that this Dad shoe trend won’t last more than two years. I just don’t like the bulkiness that the shoes display, it gives off a orthopedic type of shoe vibe.

Nike and Jordan brand is coming off of a huge weekend after their release of the Jordan 1 “Bred Toe.” The shoe featured great quality and a simplistic color blocking. Nyla David ‘19 owns the shoe and I asked her how she felt about the shoe and she said,  “I love the way the color red is featured on the shoe and how it pops.” Given that Jordan 1s are my favorite sneaker model and the presentation of the “Bred Toe” I believe that Jordan brand knocked this shoe out of the park. Nike has had rumors surface of a potential Nike Air Yeezy 2 curated by Don C. This would be the return of one of the highest valued sneaker silhouettes and it would definitely have the sneaker community going crazy.

Louis Vuitton has joined the Dad sneaker wave. Jaden Smith has been found frequently sporting a shoe that they just unveiled for their next collection.Out of all of the other sneakers that are influenced by the Dad shoe silhouette, I like the Louis Vuitton one the most because it looks futuristic.
