Opinions on ‘The Weekly’s’ new section ‘Did you know? By Dr.Kenner’

Celeste Mora

We are all familiar with the Whitney Young Weekly that gets sent to our email every Sunday night. It contains important information of what’s happening in our school that week. It’s a great way to stay informed with the great things that our sports and academic clubs are achieving. In the 3rd week of February, a new section was added called ‘Did you know?By Dr. Kenner’. This section entails everything Dr.Kenner finds necessary to share with the student body. This week the 5 things she shared were a small anecdote of an alum, facts on carrying drug substances, prom info, mental health statistics, and precautions on keeping our school safe. Here is what 5 Whitney Young students have to say about it:

  • “At first it sounded like a great idea, but then I saw how she shared that story of the alum and how he got caught with a fake ID and I thought that I wouldn’t want my business spread out like that.” -Sarah Zhou ‘21
  • “The best section of the Weekly thus far, its short and sweet but gives a lot of valuable information that you never knew you needed!”-Zack Fable ‘20
  • “I don’t think this added section was needed as we already have the ‘Kenner’s Korner’ section. It just seems like too much…”-Lisa Mei ‘18
  • “I really liked it, I think that this could be a great way for students to learn more about Dr.Kenner”-Hillary Gage ‘23
  • “I like this new section. I just dont think it should go right after ‘Kenner’s Korner’ because it sounds very repetitive and its an overload of information.”-Evan Burleigh ’21

The consensus seems to be that this section can be a great addition because it will give us an insight on Dr.Kenner and her job but the section needs to be easily differentiated from ‘Kenner’s Korner’ and moved to another spot on the weekly.
