The Cloverfield Paradox

Netflix has not been a stranger to creating its own streamable movies and shows. J.J. Abrams produced a new film, The Cloverfield Paradox, and it was secretly made available on Netflix the day of the Super Bowl. Some people are very familiar with the Cloverfield-oriented movies after watching Cloverfield or 10 Cloverfield Lane. The Cloverfield Paradox introduces viewers to an Earth that is exhausting its resources and energy in the year 2028. A team full of specialized individuals embarks on a journey into space on a ship, The Shepard, to find a way to control and hone in a new form of renewable energy. While attempting to do that, they are sent to a parallel universe and have to return to their respective universe but they encounter some complications. It inevitably becomes, like all sci-fi movies, a life or death situation.Image result for the cloverfield paradox the shepherd

Sonia Meisner ‘19 had this to say on the film: “I thought this was an interesting movie but I was kind of confused. I’ve never watched the other Cloverfield movies so that may be why Iwas confused. But it was really enjoyable.”

Abigail Dore ‘18 had this to add: “I loved it. I really liked the story and the ending… wow!”

The movie was full of surprises but at times, it was boring and slow. The movie lacked a concrete plotline and oftentimes, I found myself disinterested. But as an avid Cloverfield fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and its introduction of a new perspective on the Cloverfield world and its timeline. If you’re a true Cloverfield fan, you’ll love this movie. If you aren’t an avid fan then this movie is definitely an opportunity to get yourself invested in this anthology.
