Jumanji Movie Review

From Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 book to the 1995 film, Jumanji has been depicted numerous times over the years. The latest twist to the classic story features a talented list of actors. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are a few of the cast members. Directed by Jake Kasdan, the storyline features four teengages who are sucked into the Jumanji game. Their typical roles in real life are switched once they enter the game. This results in a humorous feel throughout the film, where, for example, the character who was a skinny nerd in real life takes the body of Dwayne Johnson in Jumanji. The movie does a solid job of explaining the rules of the game for the viewers, providing details that make it feel very much like a videogame.

Even during the more dangerous parts, the playful atmosphere created by the cinematographic choices and the acting kept the film light.

In regards to the movie, Jake Kozakowski “18 said “Great cast and good plot. Very funny and I loved the twist on the original story line”  Overall, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Overall didn’t take a lot of risks, instead making fairly standard and safe choices in the plot and script. While it wasn’t a must-see movie, it was certainly a decent film that was carried somewhat by it’s impressive cast.
