In January, the nominated Mcdonald’s All American list was given out. The two key names Ayo Dosunmu, Morgan Park, and Talen Horton-Tucker, Simeon, were there, but some names didn’t belong. It was worsened because many players were snubbed out of the list. For example, Chase Adams, Dannie Smith, George Conditt, and importantly Javon Freeman ‘18 were left out. Although, it is up to the Athletic Directors and Principals to nominate their players it has become a huge issue with how the nominating process works. The list needs to be made based on the play of the senior, not based on who submits a name. Javon Freeman ‘18 said, “I believe I should’ve made the list but I’m going to keep working and perfecting my game.” Many other players feel the same way.

Social media has created an uproar over the way the Mcdonald’s All American game is ran. Months after finding out the game would move from Chicago to Atlanta, there are many snubs in Illinois. There hasn’t been a burger boy in over 3 years from Illinois and Chicago basketball is down. Tyler Beard ‘20 said, “When my time comes, I’m going to change the narrative.”
