What is the Best Part of the Holidays?

For some people the Holiday season starts as soon as the clock strikes twelve on the night of October 31st, but for a majority of people the Holiday season starts as soon as it starts reaching below freezing temperatures and when stores start putting up their Christmas decorations. The Holidays mean something different to each and every person you ask, for example when I asked Mia Lisanti ’20, what the Holidays meant to her, she said, “it’s a time I enjoy spending with my friends and family because everyone is usually doing their own things like school, sports, and work most of the time, so it’s nice to take a break from that.” That is one of the most common answers I got when I posed this question to people.

Many people answered “giving and receiving gifts,” which of course is a nice and an enjoyable experience but I believe that too often the Holiday season is closely associated with the materialistic presents like, Rihanna’s new Fenty Beauty line, the IPhone X, and many other gadgets and toys.

Another common answer that I received from my little poll on the Holidays was best said by Allison Geary ’18. She described the Holidays as “a distraction for the enormous amount of schoolwork and college stuff I need to accomplish. Break cannot come soon enough.”  I know most of us can very much agree with her.

Regardless if you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza, or even none of the above, I hope you spend some quality time with your friends and family, eat plenty of good food, and maybe get a couple gifts this Holiday season.
