Jane the Virgin: Show Review

CW show ‘Jane The Virgin’, starring Gina Rodriguez, first aired October 13th, 2014 and was an immediate hit. Now on its fourth season, viewers are hooked. The writers of this show even built fan bases, #TeamMichael and #TeamRafael, which are Jane’s husband and the father of Jane’s son, respectively. Lisa Mei ‘18 says, “I love Jane the Virgin. I binged watched the first two seasons on Netflix last year and now I’m obsessed! I am definitely Team Rafael. He loves Jane and is so cute!” Jane the Virgin is centered around a close-knit family of three latin women, Jane, her mother Xiomara, and grandmother Alba. The series begins with 23 year old Jane, who is passionate about her purity and religion, being accidentally artificially inseminated. Due to this, Jane becomes pregnant while still a virgin. The show follows Jane’s unpredictable life with a Latin soap opera theme in a comedic manner. Because Jane the Virgin was meant to replicate telenovelas, there are many love triangles, deaths, and dramatic twists and turns throughout. One of the most devastating scenes on the show was when Michael died unexpectedly caused by an aortic dissection from an earlier gunshot wound. Allison Geary ‘18 says, “I’m Team Michael forever. He was the best character on the show! Sorry, but Rafael should have died instead.” As the seasons progress, this series becomes more and more popular. If you haven’t already, watch Jane the Virgin Fridays on the CW.
