How to have the best winter season

Celeste Mora

Most people’s favorite time of the year is upon us! November and December are considered Holiday season which means much more than just the good food. There are plenty of activities to do around this time of year and many opportunities to take advantage of.

The month of November is the perfect time to take a train ride to downtown Chicago. The annual Thanksgiving Parade is on November 17th at The Magnificent Mile. The trees lining Michigan avenue will be covered in Christmas Lights and some restaurants will be handing out free hot chocolate. There is no doubt this will be a great time so gather up all your friends and be prepared to witness the joy that the holidays bring to the city of Chicago.

If you want an activity with a little more thrill wait until November 24th, Black Friday! Makeup crew chief for The Young Theatre Production, Asia Locke(‘18) is looking forward to Black Friday as she already has made plans: “this year for black friday I plan to gather all of makeup crew the night of Thanksgiving so we can drive to Woodfield Mall and wait for the doors to open at 12AM. We hope to get most of our Christmas shopping done.” Black friday is the perfect opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas shopping or even reward yourself for your great first quarter grades.

Speaking of Christmas, we can all expect to start seeing pictures of houses that are decorated in an abundance of Christmas lights and light-up reindeer. A free activity to do here in Chicago is to actually go see one of these houses. The most decorated house in Chicago resides in the Logan Square neighborhood. The man who owns this house has been extravagantly decorating it for Christmas since 1983!

The Winter season can be dreadful sometimes because of our commute in the snow and the fact that it gets so dark outside at an early time but these holiday activities are sure to make the season a little more bearable.Picture of the house in Logan Square
