The end of the Boy’s Soccer season

On the 21st of October, the Boy’s Soccer season came to a disappointing end in the state playoffs. The team had advanced past the regional semifinals in a 4-0 win against Juarez, and were set to play a classic rivalry game versus Lyons Township in the regional title game. They have never been up to par with Lyons’ large selection of kids and impeccable chemistry, but, said best by varsity starter Elias Guzman ‘20, “This year and this game especially, we have the best chance to beat them, possibly ever. I think we can pull this off.”

Earlier in the year, as per tradition, the Dolphins started off their season by playing the Lions, but unfortunately took a harsh 5-0 loss. Christion Rice ‘18 wasn’t too worried about this looking back, as “it was our first game. We still had a lot to figure out, but we have definitely gotten better. We are ready to get revenge.”

In preparation for the regional match, the soccer team had a big meeting after practice the previous day, and were really in the zone for this game. The game started off as a hard fight, and at the end of the first half it was 1-0 Lyons. Unfortunately, even with getting a goal, the Dolphins were unable to keep up, and ended up losing 5-1.

It was a tough loss, especially for the seniors. Emotions were running high all around as the captains said their quick speeches after the game. The Boy’s Soccer team had an outstanding season and improved in every aspect over the course of the year, despite what may seem from the similarity of scores between the first and last games of their season.
