Derrick Rose and the Cleveland Cavaliers

Regine Lusane

Derrick Rose has recently been signed to The Cleveland Cavaliers for the season of 2017-2018. Due to injuries in the past, Derrick Rose hasn’t been playing to his best potential this season.  But with a fresh start he plans on coming back better than ever.  Rose has disclosed that he has been in a dark place and had been playing revenge basketball. He knew that this was not the way he wanted to continue his career. A new team and as well as mindset would help Rose return to his old self and others who are affiliated in the NBA agree with this idea. Khloe Wright. ‘21, stated, “Playing with great players like Lebron James and Dwayne Wade, will have tremendous improvement on his game.”

Derrick Rose was originally signed as Kyrie Irving’s back up. This is no longer the case due to Irving’s trade to The Boston Celtics for new Cavalier Isaiah Thomas. Thomas is currently being  sidelined for a hip injury, giving Rose a great opportunity to show what he can do. Rose has been performing very well in practice so his coaches named him the starting point. Nandi Myhand, ‘21, stated,’Derrick Rose is a great player and I know he will do great on the Cavs.” This is a shared sentiment with the coaches who are really impressed with his performance so far.
