Comme des Garcons(CDG) and Converse are scheduled to release another Chuck Taylor soon. The previous Chuck Taylor collab that they had with CDG had a calm release date. The shoes weren’t hyped to begin with until the shoe gradually started to disappear off of shelves. Once CDG came to the forefront as a hyped brand the shoes even started to gain resale value. Individuals that were clueless about the brand became buyers. The way the shoes gained hype was the perfect recipe for a shoe. It started off as a hidden gem and catapulted into the forefront of beloved sneakers by the sneaker community. Whitney Young sneaker enthusiast Rio Rosado ‘18 said that he “enjoyed the simplicity of the heart and the contrast it gave to such a classic Chuck Taylor silhouette.” Below is a photo of the CDG Converse that released last year in black.

The new upcoming release features a different design and take on the classic Chuck Taylor. This year’s model features CDG branding that’s not heralded as much as their signature heart. You can find “CDG” written twice, one is small font, and the other in large font left to right on the lateral side of the sneaker. Whitney Young sneaker enthusiast Diondre Sweezer ‘18 believes that the upcoming shoe “could’ve been executed better and is a horrible way to do a sequel for such a great shoe.” There are two colorway options just like last year’s release. Another difference between this year’s and last year’s release is that the design will only be available in the Chuck Taylor High instead of being available in the classic high and low silhouettes. I believe that there won’t be any hype surrounding this release simply because the heart that CDG is known for is nowhere to be found on the sneaker. Without the heart the shoe just looks like a classic converse. If you are a die hard CDG fan then I recommend that you get the shoe. On the other hand if you’re a sneaker fan who’s unsure about purchasing this release then I suggest waiting because these shoes will sit on shelves weeks after the release date because there has been no hype built up around them.
