This has been the best season for the girl’s varsity volleyball team in a long time. They have played 35 games and have been dominating their competition on the road and at home. With a record of 29-6, the team has had a very successful season so far despite their challenges from the 6 teams that beat them. Fortunately, they have boosted their self esteem by beating stiff competition in non-conference and tournament games.

The team’s city season was going well until the day of the City Championship game at Quest Multisport against Jones College Prep. The Dolphins faced the Jones Eagles once before in the benefit game held at Whitney Young in early October 2017 and won with each team winning 1 set and the Dolphins winning the 3rd set. During the City Championship game, the Eagles of Jones College Prep defeated the Dolphins 2-0. Senior captain, Brooklyn Irvin, said, “The City Championship game clearly was not our best performance, but we are glad we got it out of our system before we started playing State Playoffs.”

As the team recovered from the devastating loss at the City Championship game, they still qualified to play to get to the State Finals. State Regionals started earlier this week. The first game was against the Taft Eagles and the Dolphins won that one. The second game this week was against Kennedy High School and that was another easy game for the Dolphins. The teams’ middles, Atieno Hope ‘19 and Anya Korbut ‘19, have been playing great which goes to show how well the defensive players are performing as well. Hope said, “We wanted to achieve the City 3-peat, but our main goal at the beginning of the season was to push further into the State Playoffs than we have in previous years which means winning the State Sectional Final. We have worked out a lot of kinks in the system that will hopefully allow us to reach our goal.”

The Lady Dolphins Volleyball Team won the title of Regional Champions on October 24, 2017. They start State Sectionals next Monday, October 30, 2017 at St. Ignatius College Prep and they need all of the support they can get as they get closer to reaching their goal for the 2017-2018 season.
