Over the weekend of October 8th, many students got to witness the cheers and excitement of the marathoners as they passed Whitney Young’s campus. But before that took place, there was another race that started the Wednesday prior: The Senior Class Officer Elections. Seven students ran for four spots (3 for prez, 2 for VP, and 1 for Secretary/Treasurer). After the weekend passed, the school revealed the next lineup of officers.

At president, Brooke Gist stole the show, impressing everyone with her experience as captain of the Guys and Dolls team and as 7th grade president. She has a lot of involvement within the community and can be viewed as a leader and a role model of the school.

At vice president, Christopher Nguyen came out on top after presenting an empowering speech to the student body. He has experience as captain of the Boys Volleyball team, board member of the Chicago Youth Alliance for Climate Action, and also as 7th grade vice president.

At secretary, Dixon O’Banion returns for his 2nd term. He is a captain of the Boys Soccer team, an overall outstanding guy, and holds experience as junior class secretary. Dixon ‘18 has high hopes for this year and says, “we just want to make this year is as productive and enjoyable as possible for our classmates.”

At treasurer, Jeremy Liskar is counted on again. This is his second term as treasurer. He also helped organize the Gubernatorial Debate, where he even got to speak on stage. He has also earned a spot as a board member of Friends of Whitney Young and is competing for a spot as CPS Honorary Student Board Member.

This is the lineup for this years Senior Class officers. They hope to make a big impact on the school this year and strive for community involvement. Be on the lookout, Dolphins!
