Chance The Rapper Buys out Theaters

Mireya Alejo

Chance the Rapper bought out two movie theaters in Chicago this past Friday. The purpose of this was to allow the Chicago community to have free all day screening of the new movie “Marshall.” This isn’t the first time he’s done this.  In late February he bought out a theater to allow his fans to see Jordan Peele’s “Get Out”.  Chance has a well known reputation for supporting black businesses and promoting awareness of social issues embedded in our institutional systems. He has been a big advocate for Chicago Public Schools in the past. Educating the youth is important to him, so it was no surprise that he showed a movie which follows a black man who made history for being the first Supreme Court Justice. Brooklyn Irvin 18’ stated, “The story is very uplifting and I look forward to seeing it, hopefully everyone learns something.”  Recently there has been a lot of tension in the black community due to those in power.  It is important during times like these that everyone remember who they are and the strong people before them that defied the system.  A movie such as “Marshall” is perfect to not only educate but also empower our youth, which is exactly what Chance the Rapper has expressed to his fan base.
