Girls Basketball Preview!

Looking forward to the season for the Whitney Young Lady Dolphins basketball team! As senior captain, I know we have a great chance of winning City and State this year. We have a lot of young talent this year and we are definitely ready to begin our season. Coach Corry Irvin will be entering into her 17th year as head coach of Whitney Young girls basketball team and she expects nothing but great things from the team this year! This season you will see a lot of new faces on the court as we only have 7 returning players and 5 new players. We have a lot of quickness and also height and it balances us out. We have a very good transfer, Kayla Green ‘20, who is coming from St Joseph and is a strong and experienced player. Also we have a crafty guard, Timia Ware ‘21, who is well advanced for her age! With the addition of those two , we have a chance to be one of the best backcourts in the city of Chicago. We have a player that has came from a school in St Louis, Fernanda Sousa ‘19, who is a three point specialist. This will be a breakout year for post players, Cameron Williams ‘20 and Brooklyn Fort-Davis ‘19. We are traveling to big places this year including California and New York throughout the season. We have decided to have a couple players to play both Junior-Varsity and Varsity to gain experience. When I asked Coach Corry Irvin how she felt about the upcoming season, she said “We will be a team that gets up and down the court and plays pressure defense”. We’ll need your support this season and we hope to see you at a few games this year!
