The Greater Chicago Food Depository Club

While most CPS students are still settling into the new school year, some Whitney Young students are already working towards meaningful change. The Greater Chicago Food Depository Club is designed to help provide food for citizens throughout our city. The Greater Chicago Food Depository is a non-profit organization that distributes roughly 164,000 meals each day, and has been recognized as one of Chicago’s leading charities. In tandem with over 700 programs and agencies, the Greater Chicago Food Depository aims to make significant improvements in several different facets of the hunger epidemic, and ultimately to end hunger in Chicago by the year 2020. Co-founder John Cruz-Barcenas ‘18 has designed the club so that it will “consist of the members volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, as well as hosting a couple of food drives at the school throughout the year.”

Despite being in relatively early stages, the club already has a number of individuals who have shown their support for the idea. Those interested in contributing to the efforts to end hunger can find the Greater Chicago Food Depository Club table at the Whitney Young Club Fair. Scheduled for September 20, the Club Fair will begin shortly after the final bell and take place on the third floor of the Academic Building.
