Economics Club

Alex Rodea, Economics Expert

One of the greatest figures of Whitney Young, Kevin Edward Waller, known as Mr. Waller and King Kevin Waller, runs a club by the name of the Economics Club. Mr. Waller is the teacher for all six of the AP Economics classes, and he advocates for people in his classes to join his club and discuss economics and help him with anything that he needs.

During the winter, Mr. Waller has people in his economics club as well as his classes work in the Coffee House. The Coffee House is one of the most popular things at Whitney Young as it provides students with beverages and other foods in the morning. The environment Mr. Waller provides with the Coffee House makes Blue House more lively and people more awake. Michael Bump ‘17, a student in Mr. Waller’s class, said “I’ve worked in the Coffee House for Mr. Waller, definitely a good experience and a fun way to get service hours.” Coffee House proves to be an essential part of Whitney Young’s culture.

Throughout the year, people can be seen wearing colorful shirts saying, “The Wiseguys.” Mr. Waller has given his club members the perfect gear to represent economics. After school, people occasionally meet at Mr. Waller’s class to discuss economics and crack open a cold one of La Croix. “I always crack open a cold one with Mr. Waller and I got to rep (represent) the club with the shirt. Waller is a legend. He’s a man that keeps giving.” Abraham Cornejo ‘17 told us in an exclusive interview. The Economics Clubs is a beneficial club for Whitney Young as people get together to learn more about the economy as well as help others via the Coffee House.
