Student Profile: Joanna Skrzeczyna

As the the school year starts to wind down at Whitney Young, seniors will be leaving to embark on new adventures. With this, it is important to talk to some of the seniors just to find out what they plan on doing in their lives beyond Whitney Young. I sat down with one senior, Joanna Skrzeczyna ‘17, and asked her about her time at Whitney Young, what she plans to do with her life, and some other interesting questions.

Name: Joanna Skrzeczyna (pronounced ssk-sh-eh-ch-in-a)

Q: What is/was the best part of being a Dolphin?

A: “I’d say the best part about being a Dolphin was being a Lacrosse groupie and overall an obnoxious (but proud) Dolphin fan. #schoolofchampions #statechampsbaby #Ibleedorangeandblue.”

Q: What is/was the worst part about being a Dolphin?

A: “I have not slept in three years.”

Q: What do you spend the most time on that others might not consider productive?

A: “I spend a lot of time residing on the tarp/mattress thing outside. Something about basking in the sun on a Tuesday afternoon feels very therapeutic.”

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: “I hope to work with Doctors Without Borders to help people living in countries that have been affected by conflict, epidemics, and disasters. I also cannot wait to be a proud mom of twenty dogs and a garden and probably some kids.”

Q: Is there an adversity you have had to deal with?

A: “Just overall not being able to speak English sometimes and the whole ‘how do you say your last name’ thing.”

Joanna has always been a very determined person and we hope she continues to chase her dreams and raise that family of twenty dogs! And maybe some kids. All of us here at The Beacon wish you the best of luck in your life and t
hat you carry on the good name of the Dolphins: champions.
