Scooters Review

As the weather gets warmer and as the days get longer, people all over Chicago are beginning to search for one thing… ice cream. The warm weather marks the reopening of many of Chicago’s beloved ice cream shops including Scooter’s Frozen Custard. Scooter’s is located in the Lakeview neighborhood at the corner of Belmont and Paulina. It first opened on June 19, 2003 by Mardi and Denny Moore. In the planning phases, they pictured Scooter’s to be a welcoming place in the neighborhood where neighbors, families, bikers, and dogs could all hang out together. Fourteen years later, Lakeview native and Whitney Young high school student Chris Evans ‘19 agrees. “Ever since I was little, I have always gone to Scooter’s with my family. If you want to hang out with family and friends, this is definitely the right place to go.”

Not only is Scooter’s a great place to hang out, but it’s a great place to eat and enjoy ice cream as well! Jessica Nelson ‘18 notes “Everytime I go to Scooter’s I always get the brownie sundae with whipped cream and a cherry. It’s practically my favorite thing ever and I highly recommend it.” In addition to the brownie sundae, many customers also love the Elvis and Concretes. The Elvis is one of their top sellers and is a combination of vanilla custard, reese’s peanut butter cup, and bananas. A concrete is a large scoop of frozen custard that is combined with “mix-ins” and other flavorings such as caramel sauce. These are very easy to be personalized and can even be served upside down. Liza Partins ‘18 notes that “while some might say that the custard is a little on the pricey side, in all honesty, it is most definitely worth it.” Scooter’s it the ultimate go-to spot for many Chicagoans from the spring to the fall. If in the mood for a cold treat, definitely stop by Scooter’s for a little frozen custard.
