Refinery29 Review

Refinery29 Review

Anna E. Domahidi, News Editor

I have a guilty pleasure: I read lifestlye blogs and watch lifestyle videos on Youtube. I don’t know why, but I find learning about the newest products in skincare and the hottest makeup trends interesting. Of all of the websites or apps that I’ve perused, Refinery29 is the absolute best. Every day, at least 20-30 new articles are posted ranging anywhere from style to beauty to health to news, meaning there is always new material to discover. My favorite section of the website is their beauty section because that’s where I can find all of the information on skincare. For a quick backstory, my skin is very dry and is a reall hassle, so I love learning about new products I can try for that and help maintain a healthy skincare routine. For anyone with dry skin who is in dire need of a moisturizer, try the Priming Moisturizer Rich from Glossier– it has literally saved my life (thanks Refinery29!!).

In addition to saving my skin, Refinery29 has many interesting and engaging articles on subjects like style and health– it even has an entertainment section where it provides updates on what’s happening with celebrities and the such and opinions on current entertainment topics, if you’re into that kind of stuff. According to Sara Wagenmaker ‘18, “They do a good job at appealing to their target audience!” Their style section is a great way to learn about new style trends and Conal Abatangelo ‘18 enjoys “going over to the website to learn about the newest trends.”

The entire website is pretty progressive in the topics it discusses and quite liberal in its news coverage. However, the website does a good job at being more issues focused than explicitly partisan, which not many media platforms do. In addition, Refinery29’s articles are very body-positive and try to motivate its readers to be the absolute best possible people they can be.

The overall feeling I associate with Refinery29 is a “feel-good” one. The website is pretty cheery and you’re bound to find at least one article that strikes your fancy. Gabi Iturralde ‘18 told me she enjoys “their bright and eccentric colors” because they are “very appealing.” And as an added bonus, they have a YouTube channel where they post fun beauty and lifestyle videos! Make sure you check out Refinery29 next time you are just surfing the web.
