Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring all moms for being moms; annually on Sunday, May 14th. Mother’s Day became an official U.S. holiday which was at its earliest known as “Mothering Sunday.” The date and celebration vary but it usually falls on the second Sunday of May.  Today, “
In the United States, Mother’s Day continues to be celebrated by presenting mothers and other women with gifts and flowers,
and it has become one of the biggest holidays for consumer spending.

Superstar or student, your mom might be your rock.  Actor Leonardo DiCaprio agrees, saying “My mother is a walking miracle.” This kind of love inspires many to take time to celebrate Mother’s Day to show their appreciation for the mother figure in their life. Katherine Riedstra ‘17 tells that on Mother’s Day “I go to my grandma’s house and we celebrate all the moms in our families because they do so much for us.”

There are countless great ways for someone can show their appreciation- and they don’t have to be over the top. Spend the day with mom, make her breakfast in bed, or help give her a relaxing day off simply by taking care of chores and running her a bath.

If you’re on a budget you can get crafty! Creative ways to make mom a gift include homemade beauty products, a card, and photo collages. Even if your craft turns out looking a little rough, it’s the thought that counts.

There are only a few days left, make the 14th about the mom in your life!
