Spring Guitar Showcase 2017

Interested in live music? Looking for something to do this weekend? Want to see some of your classmates show off their guitar skills? Then come to the Spring Guitar Showcase this Friday, May 12!

The Spring Guitar Showcase is a concert performed by the students from all the guitar classes, from beginners to advanced, and is their chance to show off everything they’ve learned this year. It is the pride of the guitar program and Mr. Peek, the head of the event, nicely summed it up by saying, “The Whitney Young Spring Guitar Showcase is something that, to my knowledge, no other school comes close to putting on. The combination of the students’ outstanding playing with the sound and lighting enhancements mixed with the packed houses and an enthusiastic audience makes it a very special event that has become very popular over the last few years.”

And it’s not like some boring show that students are at simply because it’s part of their grade; it’s an actual show. “It’s like a rock concert, the lights, the fog, the whole experience,” Emilio Reyes ‘18, a performer in multiple shows in the past, explained. Students really get into the performances and genuinely having a great time while they’re playing, which makes for a very enjoyable show for everyone involved.

As previously stated, the show has been getting increasingly popular over the years and more and more people are eager to see it. “I haven’t been to one of these before but I’ve heard a lot of good things about the shows so I’m pretty excited to see this one,” Andrea Lopez ‘19 said.

Again, the show is on May 12 in the theater and tickets are $8 in the school store and $10 at the door at 6 PM and 8 PM. However, the 8 o’clock show tends to sell out faster, so if you are planning to go at that time, Mr. Peek suggests that you get them soon because tickets go fast!
