Maggie Browdy and the Junior Economic Club of Chicago

Emma Purcell, Editor-in-Chief

A booked calendar is not an unfamiliar occurrence to WY senior, Maggie Browdy. From cross country to Acting for Gender Equality club to Best Buddies to University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars to National Honor Society, she does it all. One of Maggie’s most noteable accomplishments, however, is her role as the Vice President and head of admissions of the Junior Economic Club of Chicago. The Junior Economic Club is a city-wide club with the goal of exposing students to financial issues and the business world as a whole. One way they do this is through their Economic Forums, where members of the club get the opportunity to learn from and network with some of the top business leaders in Chicago as well as students from across the city. Some past notable speakers include Kurt Summers, the treasurer of Chicago, Mary Lee Schneider, former CEO of Follet, a $2.6 billion company and Ian Solomon, the VP of Global Engagement at the University of Chicago. Their next forum is scheduled for February 24th at the Aon Center.

Additionally, they have their High Returns program, where 4-5 JECC members lead a series of interactive workshops on financial literacy for 7th and 8th graders at different elementary schools across the city. For Maggie, this is one of the most rewarding parts of the program because “you develop a bond with the kids because you’re at similar age levels so it makes the learning and the teaching a lot of fun”. For those interested in the club, Maggie stresses the club “looks for students who are already very involved and we create our programs to fit members’ schedules.” So, if you’re interested in applying, be sure to visit junioreconomicclub.org. In the fall, Maggie will be attending University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, where her early start in leadership and business will no doubt come in handy.
